چکیده
Belief propagation is a message-passing algorithm for performing inference in graphical models that has been implemented in a variety of domains including artificial intelligence, information theory and statistical physics. As we know, BP provides exact results only on a relatively restrictive subclass of problems, when the graphical model is a tree (or more generally if each connected component of the graph is a tree). In all other graphs that contain loops, we are left with what is called Loopy Belief Propagation. This algorithm can actually yield sufficiently accurate approximations in some specific cases [1]; the most prominent example is the near-Shannon limit performance of “Turbo Codes”. However, in the general case the approximate marginals calculated by LBP can have large errors. The motivation, then, for an algorithm that provides accurate results on a wider domain, is obvious. Several such solutions have been suggested. Among others are “Loop Calculus”, (or “Loop Series”) [2, 3] and “Loop Corrected Cavity Method” [4, 5].

Towards a 21 st Century Technology Platform for Improving Data Quality in Statistics South Africa 5 – 9 September 2005
Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) has identified the centralised storage of data and metadata as a key element in improving the quality of data. This has been interpreted within the Data Management and Information Delivery (DMID) project of Stats SA, to entail a solution founded on two key technological deliverables: There would be a central metadata repository where everything required to int...
متن کاملFinal Project Report: Real Time Tennis Match Prediction Using Machine Learning
This project adopts an innovative data model by combining both historical match data and real-time stats, and apply machine learning to predict tennis match outcomes. Specifically, we explore and compare four data models mixing historical data and real-time stats, while applying machine learning techniques such as logistic regression, support vector classification (SVC) with linear, RBF and pol...

INTRODUCTION In 2004, the Midwives Alliance of North America's (MANA's) Division of Research developed a Web-based data collection system to gather information on the practices and outcomes associated with midwife-led births in the United States. This system, called the MANA Statistics Project (MANA Stats), grew out of a widely acknowledged need for more reliable data on outcomes by intended pl...
متن کاملContemporary methods for evaluating complex project proposals
The ability to evaluate project proposals, assessing future success, and organizational value is critical to overall business performance for most enterprises. Yet, predicting project success is difficult and often unreliable. A four-year field study shows that the effectiveness of available methods for evaluating and selecting large, complex project depends on the specific project type, org...
متن کاملPolicy analysis through microsimulation: the STATS model.
This article gives a nontechnical introduction to a microsimulation model developed by the Social Security Administration to consider the effects of tax and benefit proposals on the economic status of population groups. This model, the Simulated Tax and Transfer System (STATS) model, uses information from a nationally representative survey of households to calculate taxes or benefits for thousa...
